The Cat Prince / Kocici princ DVD
Synopsis
In this Czech film for young audiences, the reality blends seamlessly with fairy-tale fantasy through the power of children's imagination. The story begins when the family of the caretaker of King's Castle moves to their new residence. The family includes the father, mother, their two children, Radek and five-year-old Terezka, and finally, their cat, Líza. The children's imagination transforms the landscape they travel through into a fairy-tale land. When their moving truck gets stuck in a snowdrift, a magical old man on a horse-drawn sleigh rescues them and takes them to the castle, where they encounter a mysterious black rider on a black horse. They later discover that the rider is Albert, the castle's restorer who dislikes cats. When Líza has five kittens, the children find out that Albert has taken them away from the castle and set off to track him down. In a last-minute rescue, they manage to save the cat family, but later that night, Radek, secretly followed by Terezka, ventures into a magical land behind the mirror to find the living water that could save the drowned Líza. Architect Vladimír Labský created a multifunctional set in studio no. 6 at Barrandov, which was also adapted for use in films such as Beauty and the Beast, The Secret of Steel City, and The Ninth Heart.
