The Barnabas Kos Case / Pripad Barnabas Kos DVD
What happens when a musical dilettante becomes the orchestra's director? Disaster! Barnabáš Kos (J. Kemr) is a member of the symphony orchestra, playing the least significant instrument – the triangle. Known for his conscientiousness, he often attends gigs, conferences, and other events, neglecting his playing in the process. One day, he receives notification that he has been appointed as the orchestra's director. He considers it an obvious mistake until the management informs him that they believe he's the right person for the job. Despite Barnabáš's conviction of his incompetence, he has no choice but to accept the decision. Even though he struggles to navigate his new role, he continues to play with the orchestra. However, he soon discovers that everyone supports him in his new position and is willing to accommodate him in everything. The formerly inconspicuous triangle player suddenly becomes a confident and relentless innovator. Drunk with power, he begins to transform the orchestra according to his vision, aiming to fulfill his grand dream – a triangle solo... This satirical comedy from 1964, based on Peter Karvaš's story, was directed by Peter Solan. It openly criticizes the practices of socialist Czechoslovakia at the time, as well as human hypocrisy and flattery in general. Not to mention how power can change a person.
