Synopsis
Psychological drama directed by Jiří Weiss in 1959, based on the play of the same name by Pavel Kohout. The Man in the Talar (Miloš Nedbal) presents the case of law student Lída Matysová (Marie Tomášová), who falls in love with the married man Dr. Petr Petruse (Vladimír Ráž). However, this relationship ends tragically with the girl's suicide... The film adaptation of Kohout's play was crafted with a sense of balance in its effective formal elements. It premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 1959. In addition to Pavel Kohout and Jiří Weiss, Jiří Brdečka also contributed to the screenplay. Noteworthy is the captured performance of Beethoven's Appassionata Sonata by František Rauch.
