Once Upon a Time in Paradise / Tenkrat v raji DVD
Synopsis
Based on a novel by writer and screenwriter Josef Urban, the film tells a story of fateful love, unbreakable friendship, and the relationships between Czech and German climbers during the difficult times of the Protectorate in World War II. The legendary and myth-enshrouded figure, Josef Smítka, considered the best Czech climber of his time, refused to be conscripted for forced labor in the Reich. For several years, he hid from German authorities and the Gestapo in the rocky town of Hruboskalsko, supported by friends among Czech and German climbers. On his journey towards freedom, Joska pushed the boundaries not only in climbing but also in life. He became a legend for his unwavering stance towards his group of friends and the woman of his dreams, never bowing to the occupying forces. This film portrays his extraordinary courage and resilience, delving into the complexities of human relationships during a tumultuous period.
