Synopsis
Young Kačka struggles with ADHD, causing issues at school. Her teacher wants to get rid of her, and her classmates aren't fond of her either. Despite being smart, Kačka feels misunderstood, adding to her distress. Her mother, Julie, lives with her boyfriend, Věroslav Herian, who works with Julie in a chemical lab. To cheer Kačka up, Julie buys her a dachshund, and during the summer vacation, they head to a guesthouse in Šumava. Herian plans cycling trips, but they don't go well, and the atmosphere is strained. Julie grows fond of the easygoing handyman Ivan, while Herian's sister, Milada, who also arrives at the guesthouse, takes a liking to him. Milada's attempt to seduce Ivan fails, leading her to sow discord between Ivan and Julie, claiming Julie and Herian won a work opportunity in England. This misunderstanding nearly ends Julie's budding relationship with Ivan. A canoeing trip turns dangerous when Herian's inattentiveness causes a collision, putting Kačka's life at risk. Ivan saves her, but Julie is shaken. The following day, Herian takes Kačka on an outing, but he's harsh with her, causing Kačka to run away with her dog, Hugo.
