Synopsis
Operation Stone was a scheme by the Czechoslovak State Security (StB) that created a false national border within the republic to deceive citizens attempting to flee the country illegally. StB agents constructed fake borders, including border patrols and interrogation groups posing as officials from the United States, Germany, and France. During interrogations, State Security personnel convinced detainees that they had crossed into another country, extracting sensitive information to use in legal cases. Nearly 2,000 Czechoslovak citizens were arrested through this operation, with most learning about the deceit only after 1968.
