Synopsis
Joseph Vilsmaier’s war drama follows German officer Hans von Witzland and his platoon during the Battle of Stalingrad, one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the Second World War. Trapped in the brutal winter, ordinary soldiers face the reality of the Nazi regime as their earlier enthusiasm gives way to disillusionment and a desperate desire to return home.
