Description
We Never Die / Sose halunk meg DVD
Synopsis
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Hungarian cinema, criticized for its "boring" art films, welcomed Koltai's explosive comedy as a herald of a revived, quality commercial cinema. Koltai, leveraging his acting popularity and partly autobiographical story, plays Uncle Gyula, a character deemed a bad influence by parents due to his drinking, womanizing, and unstable employment as a wooden hanger manufacturer. Despite his flaws, Uncle Gyuszi is depicted with a sentimental soul, adding depth to his persona. This film not only presents Uncle and nephew's journey as a narrative vehicle to showcase the rural and small-town environment of 1960s Hungary but also highlights the characters' zest for life under challenging conditions. Screened at the Karlovy Vary and Bogotá Film Festivals in 1994, the film is noted for its energy and optimism.
