Synopsis
Second-year students of a Prague high school embark on a mandatory skiing course, less thrilled about their strict supervisor, Professor Karda, who brings along his daughter Marika. The supervisory team includes the young teacher Hanka, experienced and skeptical teacher Boženka, and handsome instructor Vláďa. The course begins with minor conflicts. Vicky Cabadaj, the class leader, gets caught with a broken wine bottle by Karda. On the first evening, the boys sneak into the girls' room and nearly get caught by the professor. Training begins the next day, along with rivalry among Vicky, Radek, and Karel for Marika's attention, although she is interested in Vláďa. The boys' efforts shift to undermining Vláďa, while Karda grapples with the perpetually drunk furnace operator who refuses to heat because the coal is undelivered. The boys initially refuse Karda's request to help but agree when the operator offers them alcohol for their help. Taking advantage of Karda's absence overnight, and with teacher Hanka's leniency, they throw a secret party in the boiler room. Karel gets so drunk he passes out in the snow. Radek, despite the others' disagreement, calls teacher Hanka for help. She begins to investigate, but everyone pretends ignorance, leaving Radek to face the consequences alone.
