Synopsis
In a small South Bohemian town, amongst high school friends and within the narrow-minded adult society, a seventh-grader, Jan Ratkin (E. Cupák), experiences his first platonic love for young Anička Karasová (Jana Rybářová). The sensitive boy rebels against the cruelty and limitations of adults, only a few of whom understand his feelings. Ratkin is swept up in the richness of his emotional experiences. Neither the malice of the local catechist, the slander of a landlady, the temptations of an unsatisfied widow from the neighborhood, nor even the merciless hand of fate can drown out the voice of the 'silver wind' singing the song of youth and love. The lyrical novel 'Stříbrný vítr' was director Václav Krška's second adaptation of a work by Fráňa Šrámek, following 'Měsíc nad řekou' in 1953. Šrámek, a poet of youth, is known for his works' delicate lyricism, fine psychology, and mood suggestions. The film's atmosphere is enhanced by the nuanced performances of sensitively directed actors, notably the younger generation represented by the lyrical Eduard Cupák and Jana Rybářová. The film's success is also attributed to Jiří Srnka's lyrical music and Ferdinand Pečenka's nostalgically composed cinematography.
