Synopsis
In the summer of 1943, in a Moravian village nestled amidst the Haná countryside, it seemed as though the ravages of war had yet to cast their shadow. Twelve wealthy landowners lived there in fear of the illegitimate son of one among them. Sekal (B. Linda) had endured a harsh upbringing as the illegitimate child, scorned by all, owning nothing, unnoticed even by respectable girls. He is bitter and cruel, harboring hatred towards everything and everyone. With the arrival of the Protectorate, his time has come. He denounces the peasants for crimes against the Reich and in return, claims their properties. Fearing not just for their belongings but also for their lives, the peasants decide it's necessary to rid themselves of Sekal. However, they enlist the help of Jur Baran (O. Lubaszenko), a blacksmith hiding from the German occupiers in the village. Both men find themselves reluctantly engaged in a duel to the death.
