Description
The Girl Robinson Crusoe / Robinsonka DVD
Synopsis
This Czech film, inspired by a girls' novel from acclaimed author Marie Majerová, portrays the fate of a thirteen-year-old girl whose mother suddenly dies in childbirth. The film's heroine, Bláža Borová, a student whose reality is still intertwined with childhood fantasies sparked by reading Daniel Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe," is thrust into taking over her household responsibilities, caring not only for herself but also for her father. Taking her new duties seriously, Bláža even considers giving up her studies to care for her newborn brother. These are not easy tasks or decisions. However, her natural playful spirit, akin to that of Robinson Crusoe, helps her overcome life's initial hardships. As she confronts her childlike dreams with harsh realities, Bláža matures into a level of independence unusual for girls her age. The film, framed as a story told by Bláža's grandmother to her daughter years later, turns a fundamentally tragic story into one with an optimistic outcome.
