Funny, touching, fills a needed gap

"Save the princess from the dragon, and win the princess plus half the kingdom." A young, brave and kind young man succeeds in accomplishing the task. But the question I never used to ask, until this fairytale focused itself on answering it, is how does the young man win the princess' heart? How do the two choose to "get married and live happily ever after"? This is an important and romantic story worth telling after all, a fairy tale in its own right, and this film tells it with aplomb, humour and charm. I watch all these fairy tales with my elderly family members, and they love them all. Great actors, comedy, settings, plot, everything. Wonderful English subtitles as usual, we're very grateful. Much love to CzechMovie for making it available to Czech fairytale fans worldwide.

Princess and Half Kingdom / Princezna a pul kralovstvi DVD
John Kills the Dragon and Wins the Princess and Half the Kingdom. But where other fairy tales end, ours begins. The princess doesn't like the ordinary John, nor do her royal parents. He lacks manners, causing widespread shock, especially when his parents arrive at the castle. Distraught, the princess and her parents face a dilemma, as a royal promise cannot be broken. The former suitor, selfish King Egon from the neighboring kingdom who left the princess to the dragon, re-enters the scene. The princess is deceived by his excuses and forgives him. John, sincerely loving the princess, understands her unhappiness and cancels the wedding, returning to his native cottage. The princess leaves with Egon, but only then discovers his true nature. When she tries to escape, Egon imprisons her. Fortunately, the princess's advisor, Knight Valerian, a court etiquette teacher, escapes and believes only John can save her. Can John learn courtly manners to infiltrate Egon's castle and save the princess a second time? This task is as daunting as slaying a dragon, especially with warrants for John and Valerian at every corner. Written by Petr Hudský and directed by Karel Janák, this tale stars Matouš Ruml as John, Eva Josefíková as the princess, Jakub Prachař as King Egon, and Marek Eben as Knight Valerian. The fairy tale is filmed in the beautiful locations of Bouzov Castle, Hradec nad Moravicí Castle, and Hrádek u Nechanic Castle.
