Synopsis
Vilda Jakub (played by M. Vašut), a young Czech boxing champion, inexplicably loses a match in Berlin against the German champion Kurt Schaller (J. Nedorost) due to a mysterious intervention by his coach, Krakowski (J. Vinklář). The result of the fight is questioned by the international press, and the Germans, seeking to gain prestige for their rising Nazi state, are compelled to arrange a rematch in Prague. They attempt to intimidate and bribe Jakub, even using Schaller's girlfriend, movie star Ema Gabrielová (E. Balzerová), to dissuade Vilda from winning. However, Vilda remains steadfast in his goal to defend national and sports honor. The consequences of his actions, though, are beyond his anticipation. The character of Vilda is inspired by Vilda Jakš, a multiple-time Czechoslovak champion and world vice-champion in boxing.
