Description
Osudy dobreho vojaka Svejka + The Last Bohemian / Osudy dobreho vojaka Svejka + Dobry vojak Svejk DVD
Synopsis
This synopsis is for a combined compilation of the first three silent films about Švejk: Dobrý voják Švejk (1926, directed by Karel Lamač), Švejk na frontě (1926, directed by Karel Lamač), and "Švejk v ruském zajetí" (1926, directed by Svatopluk Innemann, based on a work by Karel Vaněk). The main role in these films was played by the then very popular actor Karel Noll. The last silent sequel, "Švejk v civilu" (1927), exists independently, but the copy of this film is significantly damaged. These movies follow the adventures of Švejk, a comically incompetent Czech soldier in the Austro-Hungarian army, and are based on the famous satirical novel "The Good Soldier Švejk" by Jaroslav Hašek. The compilation provides a unique glimpse into the early cinematic interpretation of one of the most iconic characters in Czech literature, showcasing the silent era of filmmaking.

Synopsis
The Last Bohemian / Dobry vojak Svejk
Svejk is a dog trader Prague. He is charged for "injured majesty" and is supposed to be jailed. But the court finds him to be dim-witted, and he is committed to a mental asylum. There, the doctors examine his physical and mental status. When one of the physicians accuses Svejk of being a simulator, Svejk assures him that he is an officially approved imbecile poking fun at the trappings of empire and the absurdity of war, as Svejk personifies the power of passive resistance.
