Synopsis
Docent Jakub Johánek was eagerly anticipating an inheritance from his uncle and prematurely celebrated it with his friends, unaware of the actual treasures he might inherit. He indulged in a bit too many drinks and woke up the next day with a severe hangover. His misery is compounded by the arrival of his housekeeper, who accuses him of compromising her daughter's honor the previous night, leading to an imminent forced marriage. While Jakub has long harbored a fondness for the girl, he now faces different worries. A vagrant approaches him, claiming to have witnessed Johánek setting fire to a haystack at night. The vagrant demands a hefty ransom, threatening to report him otherwise.
