Synopsis
Don't Lie! Especially when you're not good at it... Karel Klíma, an assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts, leads a carefree life, enjoying success at work and with his young lover Klára, who has just moved into his attic apartment. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he receives a letter from Mr. Záturecký, urging him to provide an expert opinion on his study of Mikoláš Aleš. Unable to find the manuscript, Klíma brushes Záturecký off with an evasive letter, unaware of the consequences. Záturecký begins to systematically pursue him, demanding the promised assessment at any cost, claiming it's of vital importance. Klíma initially avoids the persistent man, but eventually finds the manuscript, only to discover it's a worthless scribble. Every attempt to rid himself of Záturecký fails, and what started as a small lie gradually begins to affect Klíma's entire life. This tragicomic film, based on a story by Milan Kundera, explores the unexpected consequences of a seemingly trivial event, marking the feature debut of screenwriter and director Hynek Bočan.
