Synopsis
Set in the village of Honice, the story revolves around two wealthy farmers and municipal council members - the affluent mayor Dubský and first councilor Bušek. Their intense rivalry affects not only their families but the entire village, turning every council decision into a contest of wills. This includes the appointment of a night watchman to address rising thefts, with Dubský backing retired soldier Bláha and Bušek supporting tailor Fiala. Complicating matters is the forbidden love between Dubský's son Václav and Bušek's daughter Verunka, a union opposed by their fathers, particularly Bušek, who is still bitter from losing the night watchman dispute.
