Synopsis
In an old tenement building, the Novák and Bartáček families have been neighbors for years. The Nováks enjoy showing off to the other tenants and never miss a chance to play pranks on the Bartáčeks. The old apartment building provides plenty of opportunities for their mischief. Both couples constantly put on a facade: Mrs. Novák claims to be going to a beauty salon but is actually applying for a cleaning job, while Mr. Bartáček pretends to be a company director, though he's just a warehouseman. Their mutual pranks eventually escalate into open conflict. An attempt at a truce, declared after their old building is demolished and both families move into a new apartment complex, is short-lived. The two couples are assigned apartments next to each other, and the long-standing cycle of malice starts anew.
