Guard No. 47 / Hlidac c. 47 Remastered Blu-Ray
Synopsis
Josef Douša (Karel Roden) returns from World War I hoping to live a peaceful life with his young wife (Lucia Siposová) in a remote railway house. Their adjustment is complicated by Douša's severe psychological and physical issues, including temporary deafness. One day, Douša saves Ferda (Vladimír Jiráček) from jumping in front of a train, and Ferda subsequently falls in love with Douša's wife. Although Douša regains his hearing, he continues to feign deafness to uncover what people say about him behind his back. Based on Josef Kopta's 1926 novel "Watchman No. 47," which was praised as his best work, the story was first adapted into a film in 1937. In 2008, Czech Television produced a new adaptation, with a screenplay by E. Verner that highlights the painful journey of a man marked by war, seeking balance through love, friendship, work, and family. Director Filip Renč and Zdeněk Zelenka emphasize the drama and deepen the personal connections of the characters.
