Description
Miroslav Zikmund and Jiri Hanzelka in Japan/Miroslav Zikmund a Jiri Hanzelka v Japonsku 2x DVD
Synopsis
The Z+H expedition spent seven months in Japan, from February to September 1963, traversing all four islands - Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Hokkaido. They immersed themselves in both traditional and modern aspects of Japanese culture: from sumo wrestling and ryokan inns to calligraphy, as well as witnessing the world's fastest train, a nuclear power plant, and the Toyota car factory. The team compiled a "Special Report No. 3" for the Academy of Sciences and the leadership of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, analyzing the Japanese economy and the factors behind its rapid growth. Part of this report was published in a 1964 interview in the weekly magazine "Cultural Creation," garnering significant attention. However, after 1968, publishing works by H+Z was prohibited, and their notes from Japan were never developed into reports or books. Films from Japan made in 1965 were not screened, and the photographs are being published for the first time. This synopsis tells the story of an insightful journey into the heart of Japan, capturing a unique period in both Czech and Japanese history.
