Description
Mikolas Ales DVD
Synopsis
In the early 1950s, a series of biopics emerged, portraying artists (along with scientists, national revivalists, etc.) as forerunners of the working class and spokespersons for the oppressed. These figures were depicted as prevailing against the adversities posed by the bourgeoisie and various reactionaries. One such portrayal is of Mikoláš Aleš, who, thanks to actor Karel Höger and director Václav Krška, is presented with credible and humanized characteristics. His actions in the film are believable, garnering both sympathy and admiration. The film adopts a realistic approach, avoiding exaggerated caricature elements, and focuses on the period when Aleš participated in a competition for the decoration of the National Theatre. Notably, the role of the actor Šamberk was initially set to be played by Otomar Korbelář but was later replaced by Jiří Steimar.
