Description
Martina Trchova: Brnenske legendy (english, german, russian)
Synopsis
Legends of Brno is intended for students of Czech as a foreign language. This publication can be used by A2 level learners. In the ten legends, they will learn about famous stories of Brno, such as why a stuffed crocodile and a Ferris wheel have been hanging on the Old Town Hall for years, why the noon bell rings an hour earlier in St. Peter's Cathedral, or why one of the towers in the portal of the Brno Town Hall is crooked to the point of hurting the eye. The volume thus wants to highlight the treasures of the past of a city that is sometimes overshadowed by its bigger sister Prague, but which is rightly called the capital of Moravia. In addition to the most well-known tales, the book also presents more hidden stories, such as the tale of the ghost that frightened a painter in the Dominican monastery. The book is accompanied by the author's original linocuts and includes a set of grammatical and lexical exercises for each text, a Czech-English-German-Russian glossary and a key to the exercises. The volume also includes an audio CD with a complete recording of the book and a bonus song by Josef Kainar, Hvězdy jsou jak daisies nad Brnem.
