Synopsis
Oldřich Lipský's satirical comedy, set in the year "508 after Sputnik," revolves around a mid-20th-century upholsterer, Josef (brilliantly portrayed by Miloš Kopecký), who accidentally finds himself in the future. Josef's basic consumer desires appear so bizarre in this ideal society that he ends up in a psychiatric clinic. He is accompanied by Adam (Radovan Lukavský), a resident of the Blue Star, who is fascinated by the love between young researcher Petr and psychiatrist Eva. The film's production faced challenges when Yuri Gagarin's space mission altered perceptions of space-related satire. For Miloš Kopecký, this was his first lead role after playing minor and supporting characters. Despite the mandatory "educational moments," the film's direction and stellar performances make it an enduringly entertaining piece, still cherished by fans of Czech cinema.
