Les Ballets Bubenicek DVD
Synopsis
The dance performance by the Bubeníček brothers' ensemble at Prague's National Theatre featured lead ballet soloists from Hamburg, Dresden, Berlin, and Stockholm, including J. Bubeníček, O. Bubeníček, J. Vallejo, E. Vostrotina, I. Salenko, A. Merkulova, R. Coumes-Marquet, C. Cangialosi, and F. Voranger. Recorded in January 2014, the show included four one-act ballets, with three choreographed by Jiří Bubeníček and one, The Picture of Dorian Gray, co-created by both brothers. Otto Bubeníček contributed significantly to the visual aspect and also composed music for one ballet (Toccata). The performance opened with Le souffle de l'esprit, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's drawings and paintings, followed by Toccata, depicting micro-stories of individuals and pairs. Faun, a gripping dance drama inspired by a contemporary event and set to music by Francis Poulenc and Debussy, had its Czech premiere in this performance. The evening concluded with The Picture of Dorian Gray, based on Oscar Wilde's novel, dedicated to the brothers' father and first performed at Velké Losiny castle in 2011.
