Description
Leaving / Odchazeni DVD
Synopsis
Set in the garden of a large government villa, the film revolves around Rieger, a politician and former chancellor who recently lost his position and struggles to cope with this change. The villa is inhabited by Rieger, his long-term girlfriend Irena, her friend Monika, his mother, his younger daughter Zuzana, and a servant. As the film progresses, Rieger faces the humiliating process of separating state-owned items from his personal belongings and deals with various visits from family, a journalist, his secretary, and other secondary characters. The dynamics among the characters evolve, revealing betrayals and loyalty shifts. Rieger tries to maintain his dignity but gradually becomes disoriented, eventually accepting a demoted role under his main political rival. The villa is sold to Klein, a cynical younger-generation politician. In the end, Rieger's world has collapsed, and he is left to face the reality of his situation. The film, based on a play of the same name, has a unique atmosphere of its own.
