Synopsis
Elena Kodymová, a milliner and daughter of a barber from the suburbs of Prague, was in a serious relationship with Jiří Kristen, the son of a farm owner in Dubinky. However, their marriage faced opposition from Jiří's mother, Mrs. Kristenová, a woman who clung to family traditions and sought to control the fate of her sons despite her own sad experiences, as both marriages of her elder son Vilém were unhappy. When Jiří insisted on marrying Elena, Mrs. Kristenová took a stance that forced Jiří to leave Dubinky. Distraught, he departed from home...
