Synopsis
Middle of the Gulf War. On 3 April 2004, pilgrims celebrating the Ashura holiday arrive in the Iraqi city of Karbala. Unexpectedly, in a city full of people, there are attacks that precede the attack on the strategic City Hall - the headquarters of the local authorities and police. Only a handful of unsupported Polish and Bulgarian soldiers remain on the battlefield.
Karbala is a film that restores the memory of the most recent Polish heroes, whose victory in the defence of City Hall was shrouded in mystery for a long time. The film reveals the behind-the-scenes of the Polish mission in Iraq and is inspired by the true story of Lt. Col. Grzegorz Kaliciak, who commanded a detachment of Polish and Bulgarian soldiers in Karbala.
