Synopsis
The journey of engineers Hanzelka and Zikmund across the Soviet Union in 1963 and 1964 was never chronicled in literary form. The only comprehensive record of their travels consists of short films shot during the expedition, which were broadcast on Czechoslovak Television, and thousands of unpublished photographs. After 1968, their work was removed from public libraries, Czechoslovak Television, and film archives. Now, a complete collection of 20 short films and a selection of color photographs organized according to Hanzelka and Zikmund's route through the Soviet Union is available. This collection is enriched with bonuses including interviews, a Russian weekly, and the full text of "Special Report No. 4," a confidential and highly classified document written by Hanzelka and Zikmund about the economic and political situation in the USSR. This report was also presented in Russian translation to Leonid Brezhnev in 1967.
