Synopsis
The film, named after the book by Jindřich Šimon Baar, tells the story of a Czech rural-hero, Jan Cimbura. After completing his military service, Cimbura starts working as a farmhand on a countryside estate. The farm owner finds in him the best support - Cimbura is educated, hardworking, honest, and extraordinarily strong. He saves children from a burning forest, stands up to marauding bandits, and is able to physically confront the entire male population at a rural festivity. Eventually, he even takes care of Marjánka, the countryside beauty he once dreamt of but was denied by fate, who becomes a widow. Interesting is the human dimension of Cimbura - his love for animals and refusal to let them suffer, and his defense of the village fool, "Crazy Anýžka."
