Synopsis
The story of Colonel Ryszard Kukliński, one of the most significant spies of the Cold War, unfolds in "Jack Strong." This was the cover name of Kukliński, a high-ranking officer in the Polish People's Army and liaison between the Polish army and the Warsaw Pact command, which gave him access to highly classified military documents. In 1971, shortly after the bloody events in Gdańsk and the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia, Kukliński decided to collaborate with the CIA, allegedly providing them with around 35,000 pages of top-secret materials. Polish society is divided in its view of Kukliński: some see him as a national hero who may have prevented a Soviet invasion of Poland by revealing invasion plans, while others view him as a traitor for breaking his military oath. Sentenced to death in absentia, his conviction was annulled after the fall of communism. "Jack Strong" is a gripping political thriller with a stellar cast, highlighting the subjugation of Eastern Bloc countries under Soviet rule, the oppressive atmosphere of life behind the Iron Curtain, and the heroism of those who stood against communist tyranny.
