If a Thousand Clarinets/Kdyby tisic klarinetu DVD
Synopsis
They have musical instruments, and they're not afraid to use them! Private Schulze (played by J. Menzel), a hapless clarinetist, deserts his military drill one day. He finds asylum at a school in the nearby spa town of Alkalis. Just then, the crew of the independent television company Televis, led by director Tereza (played by J. Brejchová), arrives to film a report on the unveiling of a statue of J.S. Bach. However, on that day, the deceased giant performs an unusual miracle: he saves clarinetist Schulze from being shot by transforming the weapons of all the local soldiers into musical instruments. Instead of the original mundane report, Tereza airs sensational news of the miracle. Due to the extraordinary success of the broadcast, Tereza is tasked with organizing a grand television revue for the next day. Popular singing stars (K. Gott, H. Hegerová), members of the television ballet, and even some soldiers who have found an interest in music (W. Matuška, J. Šlitr, J. Suchý...) help her. However, enemies from the Ministry of War are not idle. They hatch various subversive plans and, among other things, send an elite raiding party, skilled in ballet, to the barracks... The famous Czech musical from 1964 was created based on the eponymous "leporello" by Jiří Suchý, which premiered in December 1958 at the Divadlo Na zábradlí.
