Synopsis
Eva, the daughter of a wealthy landowner, marries Emil Jerman, a wealthy but much older man. However, shortly after returning from their wedding ceremony to their luxurious apartment in Prague, Eva realizes her mistake: her husband shows no interest in her as a wife. The sensitive young woman suffers from his coldness and old-fashioned pedantry to the point where she decides to leave and return to her father's estate, seeking a divorce due to insurmountable differences. While bathing in a pond, Eva meets a young civil engineer named Adam, who is working nearby on a road construction project. Adam is the complete opposite of her husband: he may look rugged but treats her with tenderness. During a stormy night, Eva visits his cottage and becomes his lover. It's only now that she experiences the pleasures of love. When her husband receives news from the court and travels to see Eva, he tries in vain to convince her to return. On his way back, he encounters Adam and realizes the situation. Both men end up staying at a rural inn, where Eva eventually arrives...
