Synopsis
I'm a Miner, Who's Better! A story of a time when people lived socialist lives but worked in a capitalist world, where the last of the last were the first. A two-part television film depicting the destiny of an elite miner's family against the backdrop of the greatest mining disaster of the second half of the 20th century.
Part 1: Eighteen-year-old Petr changes the life of his first love, Jana, forever. In order to secure an apartment, he reluctantly follows in his father Milan's footsteps by working in the mine. Milan is an elite miner plagued by claustrophobia after surviving a cave-in. Through Petr's eyes, we witness the tough camaraderie and physically and mentally grueling work 600 meters underground. A job where life is at stake every day. On the surface? Jana spends her days with Petr's mother, Maria. Maria is a strong-willed woman who can't stand the fragile girl.
Part 2: July 7, 1961. Maria's family is falling apart. Petr becomes rough, and the broken Milan is reassigned to a lower-paying position. Jana exposes Maria's darkest secret. On that day, the Dukla Mine transforms into a blazing inferno due to negligence of safety rules. Fear, chaos, panic, but also bravery and determination to rescue those trapped underground. And on the surface? Women await their husbands, sons, and lovers anxiously.
