Description
Synopsis
In the late 1980s, the writer-doctor duo of Ladislav Pecháček and director Dušan Klein, known for their comedy "Jak svět přichází o básníky" and its four sequels, collaborated on a story set in an anti-alcoholism clinic. This clinic brought together a diverse group struggling with alcoholism: the intellectual and stoker Lexa, the unsuccessful painter Ament, history professor Zlámal, priest Dorenda, waiter Čtvrtečka, and actor Šmok. They all battle their personal demons, experiencing their own joys and sorrows while separated from the outside world. The group resents the despotic head nurse Masák and his experimental treatment methods. Lexa, a fighter and defender of not only his rights but also those of others, is the only one who stands up to Masák. Director Dušan Klein described the film as a tale where the hero, in the end, listens to his inner voice, the desire to live, not to surrender to anything, not to remain trapped or be manipulated by alcohol or people, emphasizing that one should find their own way to live. The film is noted for its witty dialogues and exceptional performances, led by Rudolf Hrušínský as nurse Masák and Milan Kňažko as stoker Lexa. Vladimír Menšík, in his final film role, portrays the alcoholic Honzíček.
