Synopsis
It Happened in the Reign of King Vladislav Jagiellon" is a Czech film from 1984, directed by Jiří Svoboda. The film tells the story of Dalibor, a rebellious knight who is sentenced to death for his actions. An attempt to free him ends in failure. This movie is an underrated adaptation of Smetana's opera and surprises with its fresh originality, even when compared to later attempts to translate musical dramas into film. Impressively staged opera scenes are also a part of another Smetana-themed film by director Jiří Svoboda, titled From My Life.
