Description
Capek's Tales / Capkovy povidky DVD
Synopsis
In 1947, Czech filmmakers first delved into Karel Čapek's "Tales from One Pocket and the Other." Director Martin Frič, collaborating with scriptwriters František Vlček and Jaroslav Žák, selected five stories: "The Discharged," "The Case with the Child," "The Ballad of Juraj Čup," "The Stolen Document," and "The Last Judgment." The first story is about a conditionally released prisoner, the second follows a police commissioner searching for the kidnapper of a child, realizing the difficulty in distinguishing among similar-looking infants. The third is a compelling narrative about a religious fanatic who, believing he is following a divine command, commits murder and turns himself in during a snowstorm. The fourth story involves Inspector Pištora investigating a burglar who accidentally steals secret military documents, and the final tale reveals that if earthly justice fails to punish certain sinners, they cannot escape retribution.
