Boomerang / Bumerang DVD
Synopsis
The story, penned by former political prisoner Jiří Stránský, who is now the chairman of the PEN Club, is set in the 1950s within the uranium labor camp for political prisoners in the Příbram region. At the end of 1958, after the fall of the Stalinist cult, former Chief of the Main Administration of Correctional Facilities, Colonel Dobrý, arrives as a prisoner. The theme of coexistence between a former "chief" and political prisoners in a Bolshevik concentration camp serves as a timeless reflection on the possibility (or impossibility) of forgiveness and the meaning of justice. Unfortunately, the film fell short of expectations, mainly due to its sparse plot and insufficient development of the dramatic arc, including the natural progression of the story. However, the film shines in terms of cinematography and the stellar Czech ensemble cast. Jiří Schmitzer, in one of the leading roles, received the Czech Lion award in 1997.
