Synopsis
Beauty and the Beast is a visually striking and unusually dark adaptation of the classic fairy tale directed by Juraj Herz. Far removed from sentimental versions of the story, this interpretation embraces a gothic atmosphere and psychological tension. A young woman willingly enters the mysterious castle of a cursed nobleman who lives hidden from the world. As she confronts fear, isolation, and the strange presence of the Beast, their relationship slowly shifts from captivity to fragile understanding. Rather than presenting a simple romance, the film explores themes of otherness, obsession, and inner transformation. With elaborate set design, expressive cinematography, and haunting music, the story becomes an unsettling fairy tale where beauty and terror exist side by side.
