Synopsis
The revolutionary uprising of autumn 1956 has been crushed, and Hungary is gripped by an atmosphere of fear and surveillance. Young agent Jung, outwardly working as a private tutor, undergoes a loyalty test led by his superior and friend Markó. Navigating a world where spies are themselves spied upon requires constant vigilance and quick judgment, contributing to the tension and dynamic pacing of this otherwise intimate film. At first glance, it's a classic story about a tragic chapter in Hungarian history, blending genres to become a personal drama and a document of the era. It portrays the practices of the secret police while emphasizing the intimate dimensions that can't be separated from even the most detached totalitarian methods. Colleagues and friends find themselves pitted against each other, and one facet of their relationship must be sacrificed. But which one? And can things ever return to the way they were?
