Synopsis
In the 1990s, a single man managed to rob nearly thirty banks, post offices, and travel agencies in Budapest. For six years, the police were left without clues and without hope of catching the perpetrator. The only trace he left behind at the crime scenes was the scent of whiskey, giving rise to the legend of the "Whiskey Thief," the main character of this film. Nimród Antal, acclaimed for his debut film "Kontroll" (2003), doesn't aim to change or judge the myth; instead, he retells the well-known facts. The story is enhanced by the fictional character of a detective who serves as the titular hero's adversary. The detective interrogates the Whiskey Thief, who recounts his story from the beginning, starting with his childhood, through flashbacks. The mental and emotional duel between these two characters becomes the main source of tension, enriching the drama with elements of a classic crime thriller.
