Description
This first collection of quartets presents four compositions, numbered 1–4, for four percussion players. The quartets are intended for teaching chamber music and for performance at school or other events. They do not aim to experiment with new sounds, introduce exotic instruments or impress with illegible notation. Instead, they seek to create clear and comprehensible music using a standard percussion setup, drawing attention to its possible rhythmic and melodic independence. Each quartet lasts between five and seven minutes. The instruments used are the xylophone, glockenspiel, drum kit, bongos, wood blocks, small bells, vibraslap, tom-toms and cabasa.
