Through the voice of the old sailor Marlow, the narrative recounts Marlow's long journey in search of the enigmatic Kurtz, chief of an ivory exploitation upstream. As his boat ventures into the heart of the jungle, Marlow discovers the horrors that, in the name of civilization, the Belgian colonizers have perpetuated. It is one of the most important stylistic achievements of English prose and a chilling approach to the abominable colonizing enterprise.
