Description
The travelogue 'The World at Your Fingertips' is a loose continuation of my first travelogue titled 'Wandering the World.' The text is supplemented with 340 photographs and 10 maps. I hope to shock and inspire readers with a traveler's soul to explore countries and ethnicities not only through books but also in real life. Vanuatu is a state in Melanesia made up of 83 islands, which until recently was associated with cannibalism. The ritual sites, dances, and the lives of the ethnic groups on the islands are unique and astonishing. In Indonesia, I focused on two islands. On the island of New Guinea, I describe the people of its western part, Papua (Irian Jaya), where the Dani tribe lives in the Baliem Valley. Their men still dress only in 'koteka,' which is a dried gourd used to cover the male genitalia, and women have severed finger joints in memory of deceased relatives. On the island of Sulawesi, I was fascinated by the Tana Toraja region, which is characterized by the unique architecture of ancestral houses, depicting a microcosm of the world, where preparing for a funeral is the most important event in the life of the Torajans. Myanmar surprises with its strong spirituality, beautiful nature, people painted with thanaka, an eight-day week, and the Bagan plateau with 2,200 stupas, pagodas, and temples that are a thousand years old...
