Za kulisami politiky a zábavy - Lidé, události, stopy života – Soldát Václav (2026)

This Czech-language book offers a personal account of life behind the scenes of politics and entertainment. Václav Soldát, a cultural sociologist, worked in an extraordinary range of professions connected with entertainment: he performed in amateur theatre, organized entertainment for tourists at ČEDOK, worked in state administration dealing with culture and eventually became a ministerial adviser. He also organized major Květ and Mladá fronta balls, managed programs at popular Youth Clubs, directed and wrote scripts for numerous events including fashion shows, and accompanied many artists on tours. Through this work he met prominent figures at the beginnings of their careers, including Petra Černocká, Petr Novotný, Fešáci and F. R. Čech. The book describes his experiences in the artistic and political environments of the former regime, offering an unusual perspective on what was and was not possible at the time and how people found indirect ways to achieve things. Soldát approaches his subjects with perspective: he neither praises nor condemns the former regime, but describes events as he experienced them. The result is both a personal memoir recalling many notable personalities and a valuable document of its era.
