Description
This Czech-language children's story follows six-year-old Jaruška during the holidays just before she starts first grade. Her longing for a pet reaches its peak, although there are already plenty of animals around her, including hens, rabbits and cats that sometimes wander into the garden. Jaruška wants an animal of her own with which she can develop a more personal relationship, but her parents refuse to allow it, saying she must first learn to be responsible. As she searches for answers, Jaruška gains valuable experience not only in her relationships with animals, but also with her peers, older siblings and parents. The story naturally addresses more difficult subjects, including crossing boundaries, betrayed trust and mutual forgiveness, unfolding as spontaneously as a small kitten at play. The book is also inspired by events from the author's own life and experiences from her childhood.
