Description
The book is intended for the residents of the city of Chrudim, tourists, but also for history and heritage enthusiasts, teachers, students, and other interested parties. It is dedicated to the sacred buildings in Chrudim and their monuments. The publication, containing more than a thousand photographs, has two parts. The individual chapters of the first part describe all the churches and chapels in Chrudim from various periods, starting with the Gothic. The Archdeaconry Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was founded in the 14th century, as was the Church of St. Catherine and the now non-existent Church of St. John the Baptist. The old Dominican Church of the Virgin Mary disappeared without a trace, having been demolished in 1421. The first mentions of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross also date back to the Gothic period. In 1521, the cemetery church of St. Michael was completed, and in 1665, the Capuchin Church of St. Joseph was consecrated, which is now the Museum of Baroque Sculptures. The Evangelical Church dates from 1890, and the Hussite Congregation was built in 1935. Between the 17th and 20th centuries, several chapels were established in the city, most of which have already disappeared. Each chapter of the book begins with a brief history of the object and continues with a description of its individual monuments. In total, the book lists more than seven hundred monuments - paintings, sculptures, altars, liturgical objects,…
