Description
How did life and transportation in Prague look during the years of World War II? This unique book is precisely about that. It depicts the everyday life of Prague residents, their existential worries, occasional escapes to entertainment, and how the events of World War II affected the functioning of public transportation (the switch to right-hand traffic, renaming of streets and stops, blackouts, searching for alternative fuel, and especially anti-Semitic measures). It brings closer the dramatic events associated with the resistance, in which trams and tram drivers played an important role (including the writer Otakar Batlička). The publication was created in collaboration with the Museum of Public Transportation in Prague and contains more than 250 historical photographs and documents, many of which are published for the first time. Thus, it is not only intended for transportation enthusiasts but primarily for those interested in the history of Prague and history in general.
