Description
This Czech-language book presents a rare account created shortly before Tomáš Baťa’s death, recording conversations between him and his close friend Hugo Vavrečka. Their lengthy discussions focus on the causes and solutions of the economic crisis, including the prices of key industrial raw materials, the character of the entrepreneur, the state’s attitude toward businesspeople, transparency in public administration, and morality and ethics in business, public administration and society as a whole. Baťa’s practical common sense is strongly evident in his approach to complex issues, while Vavrečka shaped his views into a form suitable for presentation to the government without losing the substance of the proposed solutions. As Vavrečka had to complete the text for publication himself, the book also recounts the history of their long friendship, which began in 1906, and their conversations from 1929 until Baťa’s death in 1932. Their discussions remain inspiring, and the timelessness of their ideas can still be appreciated today.
