Description
The book "The Verbal Humor of Vlasta Burian in Film" attempts to map Burian's work with language, which, alongside his movement, singing, dancing, improvisational, and mimicking abilities, represents the most distinctive feature of his artistic profile. Its content is a probe into the depths of the verbal humor of the king of comedians during the era of sound film from 1930 to 1943. For logical reasons, it omits four of Burian's silent films from 1923 to 1927, and similarly leaves aside his involvement in film production after the communist coup in February 1948. The publication cannot aim to comprehensively cover the topic – not least because the selection of examples remains exclusively at the author's discretion. His undeniable advantage in this work was the fact that he has been engaged with verbal humor both literarily and scenically for over forty years.
